Before the official opening of the 15th National Games, Guangzhou, one of the host cities, was busily engaged in various preparatory work. The Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center, a city landmark that has witnessed countless sporting glories and collective memories, also underwent a significant comprehensive upgrade and renovation. HON MING 's open type cross flow cooling towers were successfully installed and applied, injecting new technological energy into the sports center and ensuring the ultimate comfort and long-term stability of the venue environment during the National Games with their superior performance.

Project Introduction

Tianhe Sports Center is located in Tianhe District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is situated in the financial and commercial center of Guangzhou, adjacent to Guangzhou East Railway Station and opposite CITIC Plaza. It was first built in 1984 and covers a total area of  520,000 square meters, making it the largest comprehensive sports venue in Guangzhou.

On March 28, 2025, the renovation and upgrading project of the Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center Stadium and Gymnasium achieved its key milestones ahead of schedule. The Gymnasium completed its joint completion acceptance 28 days ahead of schedule, and the Stadium completed its joint completion acceptance 3 days ahead of schedule, marking the official handover of this core project, which will host the 15th National Games and the National Paralympic Games.

Overcoming project challenges

Guangzhou's summers are hot and humid, and the control of indoor temperature and humidity directly affects the athletes' competitive state and the spectators' viewing experience. This places high demands on the cooling efficiency, operational stability, and energy conservation and environmental protection of the venue's air conditioning system.

The existing cooling equipment could no longer meet the stringent requirements of large-scale events in the new era. This upgrade aims to create a smarter, more energy-efficient, and more reliable venue environmental protection system. After extensive evaluation and rigorous selection, the project ultimately chose the HON MING open type cross flow cooling tower as the key equipment for the air conditioning system's cooling process.
